Why Democracy is Dangerous

"Three wolves and a sheep voted on what to eat for dinner..."

John 19:12 – For at least the third time, Pilot is arguing with the crowd for the life of Jesus. Twice in Luke’s account he pronounced, “I see nothing in Him deserving of death!”

But the crowd persisted.

This is the classic example of why a democracy is a bad idea – it devolves very easily into mob rule of oppression over the innocent minorities. Mankind is basically evil and needs a redeemer.

Legality and majority do not make morality; they make commonality. Legality and majority crucified Jesus.

The crucifixion of Jesus was not done without God’s roadblocks of grace standing up in front of the Sanhedrin being confronted of their hypocrisy and blood list.

The roadblocks were in front of the crowd with Pilate’s pronouncement of His innocence.

The roadblocks were in front of Pilate with his interrogation, torture, collaboration of the same with Herod and the dream from his wife.

So far, everyone who sees and convicts Jesus is convicting themselves of sin.

Democracy is not an inherently good objective because people are not inherently good. It is dangerous and can be easily whipped into mob rule.

Just governance needs divine guidance (the Bible) and courageous leaders who will exercise God’s judgment.
