Not Ashamed

Unbelief is personally and culturally destructive. Romans 1:16-32

The Gospel is the “power of God to salvation for everyone who believes.” The Gospel reveals God’s righteousness. This righteousness is attained “by faith.”

This righteousness is contrasted with all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men. Sinful men looked everywhere but in the right direction. It started with a refusal to thank and praise God. That was preposterous on its face, and the next thing to go was their intellect.

It’s amazing how many people have turned from the faith, professing, “When I studied with an open mind, I concluded that Christianity cannot be true.” Then you hear what “facts” persuaded them—and find out that these are simple objections that have been soundly refuted in Christian thought for ages. And then you see a lifestyle change to allow, accept, and even celebrate various forms of evil.

Evil is anti-intellectual. Personal freedom to sin is never rational. It’s never purely intellectual to turn away from the Gospel.

This anti-intellectual refusal to give God proper thanks and worship results in a degraded intellect, which then leads people to degraded moral behavior. It starts with idolatry, slogs through vomitous personal expression, and ends with oppression.

We can be quick to point out that homosexuality and lesbianism are both singled out. These are “shameful” and self-destructive, “receiving in themselves the penalty of their error, which was due.” It is worth spotlighting that these behaviors are described as “shameful” (as opposed to the Gospel, of which Paul is “not ashamed”), yet the modern crowd has been doing everything to promote this garbage under the label of “pride.” But if you study the consequences of bad sexual behavior, you find that it is both incredibly gross and incredibly destructive.

The media and politicians have done a great job as undertakers, putting makeup on a corpse. They want you to believe that sodomites are suave and sophisticated, like Mayor Pete Buttigieg and Secretary Scott Bessent (the makeup). But they hide the fact that lesbians are largely overweight[1], that homosexual men have a startling loss of anal continence[2], that fecal matter is often the cause of oral STDs[3], and that homosexual men comprise an entire 60–80% of the AIDS population[4] (the rotting corpse of sexual deviance). Those are just some of the due penalties of their error.

And this is where the pride people would like the conversation to end. “Everything is fine between two consenting adults,” they say. “Let us figure out what happens in our own bedrooms and leave us alone,” they say. “We would never hurt anyone!” they say. But this belies reality. If you follow the text, you’ll see that personal expression marches on to oppression: “maliciousness…murder, strife…backbiters…violent, proud…inventors of evil things, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful….”

Not exactly a picture of love, acceptance, and tolerance. In addition to the due consequences already mentioned, we have found that homosexual couples who adopt are highly sexually abusive to children. They are also abusive toward those who dare tell them the truth of their error and refuse to accept their defiance as normal. They are also filled with internal strife and bitterness against each other. “Love is love” means absolutely nothing of self-sacrifice for the good of another or the good of a nation.

The biggest intellectual problem that Christianity has ever had is why in the world God would want to love sinners in the first place.

But that, too, is easily answered when you see how powerful the Gospel is. It is the power of God for the salvation of all who believe. It takes the muck and mess and filth of those who are lost in sin and brings them to beauty, righteousness, and love. We are not proud—we are honored and unashamed—to bring this Gospel to all men!
